DOT EXAM

Essential Care Clinic offer: Department of Transportation Driver (DOT) Exams. 

DOT exams are mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. The DOT exam assist to determine if a driver is physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to operate a commercial vehicle. 

On the day of the exam bring: 

• Photo identification
• Medical records
• List of medications, including strength and dosage, for both prescription and over-the counter drugs
• Eye glasses
• Hearing aids
• Copy of your most recent stress test (for heart conditions)
• Copy of your latest sleep test result (for sleep apnea)
• Contact information, including names, phone numbers, and fax numbers for all your doctors

Physical Exam: 

A Certified Medical Examiner will perform the DOT exam which includes the following: 

• General appearance
• Extremities
• Lungs and chest
• Heart
• Eyes and ears
• Mouth and throat
• Nervous System
• Back and Spine

As well as a mandatory urinalysis screens for protein, blood and sugar in the urine. The exam often takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
